A recent 19th News/SurveyMonkey poll conducted April 11-21 found that nearly half of Americans (49%) disapprove of politicians focusing on transgender issues, up from 43% before the November election. This sentiment is shared by a majority of Republicans (57%). The poll also indicates that Democrats and Independent voters are less likely than before the election to believe politicians should prioritize protecting trans rights, with 42% of Democrats now saying politicians should not focus on the issue (a 9% increase from September). While 59% support trans adults accessing gender-affirming care and 55% oppose banning it for minors, only 43% support trans minors receiving such care, a decrease from last year. These findings come as President Trump has issued several executive orders targeting transgender rights, including defining sex as only male/female, banning trans military service, and restricting federal funding for gender-affirming care for those under 19.
