Have you established a written non-discrimination policy for your campaign or office staff and volunteers, inclusive of protections based on sexual orientation
and gender identity?
I do not have staff and my campaign consultant identifies as part of the LGBTQ community.
What are your thoughts on public employees having the ability to refuse to carry out their public duties without consequence when such duties may contradict their sincerely held religious beliefs?
Employees of the school district must follow state and federal non discrimination laws as well as board policies. Failure to do so will result in discipline.
Legislation has passed in other states prohibiting drag shows and similar LGBTQ+ performances. What are your thoughts on this type of legislation?
People should have the choice whether or not to attend. There isn’t a need for the government to get involved in this. There are so many pressing priorities that should be occupying the time of our leaders, and drag shows aren’t one of them.
What are your views on public libraries offering comprehensive, age-appropriate books/materials inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity?
I believe parents/students/ the readers themselves should make those decisions, not elected officials. We have amazing school librarians who curate books for our students recognizing that its important showcase the diversity of our community, families and individuals. Our students should feel represented and that our libraries are safe spaces.
Do you support explicitly protecting LGBT+ students from bullying and harassment in state law?
Yes, no one should be bullied/harassed. We’ve taken steps to address it at Fresno Unified.
Clovis Unified School District currently requires transgender students to get their parents or guardians permission to receive affirming services. What is your view
on this?
I believe this is against state law.
What are your views on age-appropriate gender-affirming care for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals?
I believe that those decisions are best left to parents/caregivers and appropriate professionals.
Do you support public funding for HIV testing, treatment, and prevention?
Yes
What do you plan to do to improve air quality and protect the residents of the Central Valley?
I worked as an air quality advocate for a few years. At Fresno Unified I have worked to improve the indoor air quality, reduce asthma triggers and the use of
chemicals as well as replace HVAC systems. We have invested and will continue to transition our fleet to cleaner technologies.
What is your perspective on a woman’s complete bodily autonomy?
Women (and all genders) should have the right to choose what they do to their bodies.
Are there any plans you would implement to address the issue of homelessness?
We provide services to our homeless students and families through project access. Over the years I’ve been on the board the supports and services have increased and include mental health, social workers and connection to services.
Please share your views on the economy, job availability, and household incomes in the Central Valley and any plans to address these issues.
