Fresno County Supervisor - District 5

Jennifer Cruz

Yes, this campaign does not discriminate against any protected class and fully supports equal rights for all. All members of this campaign team are from the LGBTQ+ community or allies of our community.
California State law requires that public employees carry out their duties in a non-discriminatory way and therefore employers should be intentional about hiring and the expectations of non-discrimination policies in the workplace.
This is unacceptable. In 2023, we should be well past the days of politicizing LGBTQ communities and using them as political pawns to rally a voter base that is misinformed, mislead and driven by fear mongering politicians whose only goal is to level up in politics. Fresno County deserves better and the politicization of our community is a distraction from the real issues like homelessness, lack of attention and support from County Supervisors with regard to county departments of social services, mental health and public health.
This free information is paramount in providing visibility and saves lives of LGBTQ+ young people. Restrictions or bans on this material only negatively impacts low-income youth 13-17 years of age who do not have supportive families and low-income youth of the same age who cannot talk with parents about sexual and reproductive health. Other youth who have the means will download the information to their IPAD. Additionally, the current stance of our Fresno County Supervisors regarding free information in public libraries is going to result in lawsuits and more wasted tax dollars that should be going to improvements to Fresno County and services for the people who live here.
Yes, and my record of advocacy in Fresno County School Districts clearly shows this.
This is a violation of California State law and will result in lawsuits that will waste taxpayer dollars. Also, it will result in increased suicidality, mental health issues and homelessness for LGBTQ+ youth.
I have spend the last 5 years building out programming that will help people receive these types of services if they are needed. The argument by conservative around this issue is once again an tactic to rally their voter base and distract from real issues and improvements that need to be the focus here in Fresno county.
Yes, just as it was in the 80s, HIV is an issue that we should all care about and it should not just be focused on LGBTQ+ communities.
I am endorsed by the Biological Diversity Center Fund as an advocate for environmental protection. I believe in 2023 there are many solutions to continue to support job creation, economic growth, working families while we also protect our environment. Our current board rejected $200k for an environmental study in 2022 while we see air pollution, heatwaves, water pollution, and wildfire worsen in the central valley. Ignoring this issue is not going to make it go away. We need creative and innovative solutions so we can prosper economically and be able to breathe the air and have safe water.
I believe unequivocally in a women’s right to determine what is best for her and her sexual and reproductive health. Pro-choice.
improve department of behavioral health, social services, public health so that the 40% of Fresno County residents who are on MEDI-CAL can get the services they need to prevent becoming homeless. Improve and expand on the permanent supportive housing that exists, and make the county responsible for some of the temporary housing solutions that are currently only being supported by the City of Fresno.
Inflation in the state is approximately 18%, average cost of living wage increases are 0-3% and in February 2023 data indicated that rent in Fresno had increased approximately 26% since the pandemic. There are a multitude of ways to create good jobs, protect the environment and stabilize rent. The current Board of Supervisors simply has had no incentive to prioritize these issues. If you make six figures, refuse to listen to constituents, and go unchallenged every election cycle– there is no reason to do anything different. Fresno residence are ready for change and I am the candidate who will be that change.
Driven by a commitment to the prosperity of our community, I bring a wealth of experience and education including a Master’s degree in Human Services. I am passionate about public service evidenced by my work record in Fresno. My vision for Fresno County is a vibrant and inclusive community. As a mother working in nonprofit and business management, I have the skills necessary to navigate complex challenges and find innovative solutions. My experience includes collaboration, transparency, and strategic planning; qualities that will be indispensable in serving our community. I believe in transparent government and will be accessible, actively seek community input, and ensure that your concerns are heard. I am a voice for the people and will always work on issues that matter to you. I will champion policies that celebrate our differences and unite Fresno while fostering economic growth and acting with fiscal responsibility. I will never waste taxpayer dollars on frivolous lawsuits. I will work to attract businesses, support local entrepreneurs, and invest in infrastructure to enhance our county’s economic landscape and improve overall quality of life. Together, we can build a Fresno County that embraces everyone, thrives economically, and prioritizes people. I humbly ask for your vote.
