Trans Day of Visibility Barbeque Potluck

Hola Mi Gente/Hi My Peeps,

Tomorrow Saturday March 30th in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility, Casita Feliz Latinx LGBTQ Center Fresno will host their inaugural TDOV Barbecue Potluck for our trans communities and allies at 3pm at Casita Feliz (RSVP required for location address).

Each year on March 31, the world observes International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender people. It is a day to celebrate the lives and contributions of trans people, while also drawing attention to the poverty, discrimination, and violence the community faces.

International TDOV was created in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall. Crandall, the head of Transgender Michigan, created TDOV in response to the overwhelming majority of media stories about transgender people being focused on violence. She hoped to create a day where people could celebrate the lives of transgender people, while still acknowledging that due to discrimination, not every trans person can or wants to be visible.

As a 1st Mexican-American transgender woman who purchased a home (Casita Feliz) in the north tower district back in September 2023, I wanted to provide holistic, comprehensive and community-centered services in both English and Spanish for our Latine LGBTQ communities and their families not only for Fresno but the many surrounding small farm working communities.

I’m extremely grateful to host the TDOV Barbecue Potluck at my home (Casita Feliz) to celebrate Trans Joy & Liberation. We always hear the hate, violence, and discrimination against trans folks but tomorrow we will celebrate our achievements, resiliency and determination to THRIVE!!! ✊🏽

Please join us tomorrow and don’t forget to bring a pot with some food in it…can’t wait to see you all!!!
