PHOTO GALLERY JUST ADDED…I’m happy to report that the Imperial Dove Court’s Closet Ball 2008 – “Hollywood Comes To Fresno – A Night On the Red Carpet”, was a huge success. With nearly 100 people in attendance and outstanding performers a wonderful night was a sure thing.
There were two contestants for Closet Ball Queen and two for Closet Ball King. If you are unfamiliar with Closet Ball, contestants with the help of a sponsor have one hour to transform from one gender to the other. This years contestants for Queen were Peng, who became Sluticia with the help of sponsor Meisha, and Nick who became Alicia with the help of Margo Starr.
For King we had Carol who became Carlo, sponsored by La’Retta Cherry and Mandy became Clyde, who was sponsored by Shannon.
During the transformation the audience was entertained by a number of local performers and were able to bid on auction prizes and participate in raffles.
The judges for the evening – Kay Taus and Renee Potik from Gray Alliance, Mike Martinez from QueerFresno.com, Jim Cruz of Cruz Land Management, and LaMonica, one of Fresno’s notable transgendered individuals, had tough decisions to make, but in the end Alicia and Carlo were named Closet Ball 2008 Queen and King. They will hold these titles until next years event.
Event co-coordinator Grand Duchess 34, Diva Licious, with the help of many court members and community members at large made sure the event would be one to remember and they did just that.
We’d like to remind everyone, that coming up on February 9, 2008, the Court will be presenting the Mr., Ms. And Miss Gay Fresno Pageant – “The 3 M’s Motown Review”. It will also be held at the Clovis Senior Center starting at 6:00 p.m. Advance sale tickets are available now at The Red Lantern and The Den.
